For the past 21 years we have been holding a fundraising BBQ or donation day (during COVID) in support of childhood cancer. Each year we cover all the expenses so that every dollar raised can go to one of the three childhood cancer charities.
This year the funds will be split between: Children's Health Foundation (London's Children's Hospital); Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk; and Waterloo Regional Health Network Foundation (childhood cancer) for their childhood cancer programs.
Without the strong and sustained support from members of the community, business donors and our amazing volunteers, this event could not have grown to the size and scope it is today. Twenty one years ago we had a vision of raising funds to support families impacted by childhood cancer. With a single barbeque, a couple of coolers, a sun umbrella, and a lot of heart, out Childhood Cancer BBQ was born. That single barbeque is now several industrial grills operated by many volunteers and that umbrella is now several party tents and more than a dozen picnic tables.
Our 2025 Childhood Cancer Fundraising BBQ raised $38,488 and
to date over $357,180 has been raised for childhood cancer.
We have been very fortunate that childhood cancer has not touched our family. Since we are one of the lucky ones, we feel that we should help others that have been affected. There is more than 10,000 children, adolescents and young adults in Canada that are in treatment or 5-year follow-up for cancer right now. About 1 in 5 children will not survive cancer and outcomes are worse for hard-to-cure cancers. Childhood cancer affects all ethnic, gender and socio-economic groups.
This year's fundraising BBQ will be held on Thursday July 9th from 11am to 6pm at our shop in Petersburg (1239 Notre Dame Drive).
